APPLEVIEW - KITCHEN PROJECT
A well-designed kitchen is more than a visual upgrade - it changes how your home functions every day. This transformation brought more light, better flow, and a more refined overall feel through thoughtful planning and intentional design decisions. This is one of my favourite kitchens! The good thing is we didn’t have to do a ton to give this space a drastically different feeling. We installed new countertops, and added in an island after removing the wall and attached peninsula. This made all the difference, as the previous layout had an obstructed the flow. Replacing it with the island has given it a new ease of movement and a way more spacious feel; while the kitchen has essentially the same layout, the sense of movement has shifted in major ways. The space used to feel heavy due to the peninsula island attachment to the wall, which acted like a dark buttress in the room. We updated the flooring, and gave the perimeter cabinetry a simple colour change, allowing the home to feel more cohesive.
On the main floor we changed a lot of the fixtures: from the lighting, to an upgrade of the stairs. We brightened the space with a the paint job that made it light, airy, and more expansive. The paint job and flooring update gives the main floor height, and expands the sense of space.
In the dining room we changed all the furnishings: from the light fixture, to more comfortable seating. When interviewing the client they said creating a space to host their big family was a top priority. This became our primary objective in the space: to create a center of the home, a place to gather inter-generationally. The previous kitchen was not conducive to that intention, and the addition of a comfortable banquette hit the mark. It’s now a space where everyone can gather in one spot, with plenty of room to accommodate hanging out in one shot; around the island, and the dining table. We helped make the space feel home-y, inviting, and highly functional.
The client wanted the family room to be a lot lighter and more inviting, and to also extend the seating space. In its previous form it was a darker navy blue theme. We took it from greys to warm creams and warm whites. We changed the fire place, and gave them a whole new paint job. The long coffee table and a new L-shaped couch felt perfect, alongside a refreshed area rug. Simple aesthetic changes that made an impact!
