5 WAYS TO GIVE YOUR SPACE SOME TLC THIS MONTH.

Hoping the ground hog does not see his shadow tomorrow, if he doesn’t we are in for an early spring.  Fingers double crossed, we get an early spring!!!

We’re in February and we’re in the dead of winter and time to freshen things up a bit around your home.   Here are some ways to change, tweak and adjust your home without breaking the bank.

1)     DECLUTTER

In January, many do the large purge and the big push for outflow after the Christmas haul.  But in February, there is more focus on the smaller areas, the ones that actually affect the day to day of our lives like the pantry areas, the closets and clothes, the junk drawer, etc.    Decluttering these spaces leads to creating organization and creating joy with calm and order.  Clearing these spaces also creates success for when the time comes for spring cleaning and giving these spaces the TLC, it deserves brings a mindset of joy and gratitude.

2)     MOVE YOUR FURNITURE AROUND

Rearranging your room by simply moving furniture around is a subtle change that can actually make you feel revitalized.  In the month of February and especially during our stay at home order, this would be the perfect TLC you can do to your home to fall in love with it again.  Even if you are the type of person who likes routine, a little change will do your mind a lot of good once in a while.   Here are some factors to think about when rearranging your furniture: Choose a focal point like a fireplace, a large window, a bed, a media unit and work around this focal point.  Find balance when arranging your furniture by considering both size and placement of the various pieces, making sure not to group all the large or small pieces in one side of the room.  Doing this may give your space a bit of lopsided and imbalance feel.   Consider traffic flow and ensuring furniture placement is not in the way of people tripping over furniture.  Create a clear path so people can walk from one end of the room to the other without difficulty.  Putting it all together with space plan and furniture plan and even adding the accessories can be easy using a software or even sketching it on a paper for your desired floor plan.

3)     REARRANGE YOUR COFFEE TABLE

Sometimes a coffee table can feel a bit one dimensional or cluttered, but giving your coffee table a bit of a refresh and some TLC with these tips, will give it a whole new life.  Try using items with varying heights like stacking coffee table books and even an item on top of the books, some flowers in a vase will add depth to your table scape.  Display treasured possessions that you have collected over the years whether it be art, a box or book.  Group your items on a tray using groups of three that complement each other with different textures and materials.  Show off a candle with your favourite scent you can light when watching your favourite TV or movie.   Stack your favourite collection of books and interchange them as season and colour palettes change.  All these changes will give your coffee table fresh feel and it will make you love your coffee table again.

4)     USE YOUR BEST

Let’s give your special occasion pieces like good china, fancy glasses, fancy guest towels some TLC and enjoy the little things in life, especially in these times and especially while we are at home.  Don’t wait for that perfect moment to bring it all out when the perfect time is right here right now.   What’s the point of having it, if it just sits in a cupboard most of the year?  We’re doing right by them to use them now and to use them well.
